Beaded Reindeer Ornament/Key Chain

Directions

You will be working from the top of the reindeer’s head down to the nose. The antlers will be done separately. Find the center of the length of rattail. Make a slip knot to attach the lanyard hook to the center. You will now be working with each end of the rattail separately. In the diagram they are color coded to make it easier to follow the stringing directions.

1. Row 1 - Start by stringing on two brown pony beads onto the right rattail. Take the left rattail and string through the same beads in the opposite direction. This is called crossing through and will be done throughout the project. Each rattail end should be coming out from opposite ends of the beads.
2. Row 2 – On the right rattail, string on 4 brown pony beads. Cross through with the left rattail.
3. Row 3 – On the right rattail, string on 2 brown pony beads, 2 black, then 3 brown. Take the right rattail and go back into all of the 6 pony beads you just strung. Take the left rattail cross through starting from the second brown bead. Add 1 brown bead. Now go back through the previous 6 beads. Turn the 2 outer brown beads on their sides.
4. Row 4 – On the right rattail, string on 5 brown beads. Cross through with the left rattail.
5. Row 5 – On the right rattail, string on 4 brown beads. Cross through with the left rattail.
6. Row 6 – On the right rattail, string on 4 brown beads. Cross through with the left rattail.
7. Row 7 – On the right rattail, string on 3 brown beads. Cross through with the left rattail.
8. Row 8 – On the right rattail, string on 1 red pony bead. Cross through with the left rattail.
9. Take the right rattail and go back through the beads in Row 7. Both ends of the rattail should meet up. Tie the ends together to secure beads. Feed ends of rattail through more beads and cut off excess to hide the knot. For the

Antlers:

1. Using the excess rattail, you will string each antler on separately. Find the center of one length of rattail. String on 1 ivory pony bead.
2. On the right rattail, string 1 ivory bead. Cross through with the left rattail.
3. On the right rattail, string on 1 ivory bead. Cross through with the left rattail.
4. On the right rattail, string on 2 ivory beads. Take the right rattail and come back through the first ivory bead. This creates one point on the antler.
5. On the left rattail, string on 2 ivory beads. Take the left rattail and come back through the first ivory bead. This creates another point on the antler on the other side.
6. On the right rattail, string on 2 ivory beads. Cross through with the left rattail.
7. To attach to the head, take the right rattail and string through the top 2 beads on the head. Take the left rattail and string through the 4 beads in the second row of the head. With both ends meeting, tie rattail together to secure.
8. Repeat steps 1 through 8 for the other antler and attach to the opposite side of the head.

Finishing:

1. Knot ends securely and string rattail ends through a few more beads to hide the knot. Cut off excess rattail.
